Residents at Llys y Goetre, one of the Council’s newest older persons’ housing developments in St Mellons, enjoyed a Summer garden party last week, bringing together local organisations and services to showcase a range of health, wellbeing and community support opportunities.
The event gave residents the chance to meet service providers, connect with neighbours and find out more about the support available in their local area.

Delivered in partnership with Age Friendly Cardiff, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s Live Well Age Well Team and the Council’s Wellbeing Support Team, the event offered practical advice, information and guidance to help residents stay healthy, active and connected.
Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Public Health, Cllr Norma Mackie, attended the event and was given a tour of the new development, which provides 60 modern one- and two-bedroom council apartments alongside high-quality communal spaces designed to support wellbeing, independence and social connection.
One of the highlights of the day was a Tai Chi session, which proved particularly popular with residents. Following its success, discussions are underway about introducing regular Tai Chi sessions at the scheme.
Residents praised the event, with comments including: “Lovely event – I found out a lot about health support”; “I haven’t been in the scheme long and moving is stressful, so it was lovely to meet new neighbours”; and “I enjoyed chatting about wellbeing support.”
A big thank you to all the teams and partners involved in making the day such a success, including all the staff at Llys Y Goetre who provided such a warm welcome to everyone.
