Short Breaks for Unpaid Carers

Caring for someone you love is often deeply rewarding, but it can also be demanding, isolating, and exhausting. Unpaid carers play a vital role in our communities, yet many struggle to find time to rest, recharge, or simply catch a breath. To help address this, the Unpaid Carers Short Breaks Grant 2025-26 is now open for applications. Offered in partnership by Cardiff Third Sector Council (C3SC), the Cardiff and Vale Regional Partnership Board, and Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS), the grant enables community organisations to apply for funding to create, improve, or expand short-break opportunities for carers across Cardiff and the Vale.

Short breaks are flexible and varied—they might include events, trips, or activities just for carers, or shared outings for carers and the people they care for. The aim is to give carers a chance to step away from their responsibilities, restore wellbeing, build resilience, and sustain their caring relationships. The funding focuses on increasing access to breaks, giving carers choice over the type and timing of activities, reaching those most in need, and strengthening carers’ ability to continue in their role.

Eligible third-sector and community organisations are encouraged to apply before the deadline of 1st October 2025, with funding available for activities delivered through to March 2026. By thinking creatively about how to provide meaningful respite, organisations can make a real difference in the lives of unpaid carers who are the backbone of so many families.
