Celebrating Pride Month

Pride Month is a time to celebrate love, identity, visibility and equality for LGBTQ+ communities across the world. In Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, the Regional Partnership Board (RPB) stands proudly with LGBTQ+ citizens, staff and partners — reaffirming our commitment to inclusion, equity and person-centred care.

Standing in Solidarity: Why Pride Matters in Health and Social Care

Health and social care services are at their best when they embrace diversity, challenge inequality, and create safe spaces for everyone. For LGBTQ+ individuals, accessing inclusive services is not just a right — it’s a matter of dignity, safety, and wellbeing.

Discrimination, stigma, and poor understanding of LGBTQ+ needs can lead to health disparities and unequal outcomes. Through our integrated approach to care, the RPB works to break down these barriers and promote inclusive services that recognise the lived experiences of all people.

Pride Heroes in our Region

This Pride Month, we shine a spotlight on the health and social care Pride heroes across our region — individuals who have championed inclusion, spoken up for others, and brought about positive change.

Whether they are frontline workers, community advocates, or people with lived experience using their voices to shape services, they remind us that representation matters and that allyship is active, not passive.

Some of our local Pride heroes include:

  • LGBTQ+ Community Champions working in mental health services who help shape trauma-informed care for trans and non-binary individuals.
  • Care staff and nurses who create safe and affirming spaces for older LGBTQ+ residents in care homes.
  • Young people involved in co-producing services that better meet the needs of LGBTQ+ youth facing social isolation.
  • Third sector partners providing LGBTQ+ inclusive wellbeing and peer support across Cardiff and the Vale.

These voices are central to how we shape the future of our integrated care system.

Embedding LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Our Work

The RPB is committed to:

  • Championing co-production with LGBTQ+ people in service design and delivery.
  • Promoting inclusive language and training across health and care settings.
  • Gathering data to better understand the needs of LGBTQ+ people in our communities.
  • Celebrating diversity across our workforce and partnership networks.

In line with our North Star priorities, we are building systems that truly reflect the communities we serve — with equality, inclusion and belonging at their core.

Get Involved

This Pride Month, we invite everyone in our partnership and wider communities to:

  • Reflect on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in health and care.
  • Amplify LGBTQ+ voices and stories.
  • Commit to inclusive practice in whatever role you play.

Together, let’s celebrate those who lead with courage and care — our Pride heroes — and continue to make our region a place where everyone feels seen, supported and proud to be who they are. Look out for many of our partners and colleagues participating in the Pride Cymru events on 20th and 21st June.
