Elf Day 2022

Dementia Facts…

Dementia is more than problems with memory…

Dementia is a syndrome that affects a person’s ability to remember, think, make decisions and complete everyday tasks.

If you are worried please speak to your GP.

There is education available for people with dementia to learn about their condition / diagnosis…

In Cardiff and the Vale we have groups to support a person who has received a diagnosis of dementia.

Organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society, SOLACE, Effro, Admiral Nurses, Carers Wales offer support to unpaid carers and opportunities to connect with wider services.

Alzheimer’s Society run Carer Information Support Programmes (CRISP) for carers of people with dementia and an online peer support group.

Cardiff and Vale host several Dementia Cafés that are free to attend…

Dementia Cafés are a place to come and connect with others who might be having similar experiences so you can relax and chat in an inclusive environment.

Dementia Cafés take place in Cyncoed, Llanishen and Fairwater and online.

Tools / documents such as Read About me can enable the care and support of a person with dementia to be focused on them as an individual…

‘Read About Me’ is a booklet you can complete so staff know more about you – your life, preferences and care plans.
