We’re pleased to launch the “Get Checked Out” campaign, encouraging people with a learning disability, their families and carers across Cardiff and the Vale to take proactive steps in looking after their health and wellbeing.
This important campaign focuses on raising awareness of early signs and symptoms, supporting people to seek help sooner, and reducing barriers to accessing support. It has been developed to ensure information is clear, accessible and easy to understand—helping people feel confident to take that first step.

Why this matters
We know that people with a learning disability can face additional barriers when accessing healthcare. These can include communication challenges, anxiety, or not always feeling listened to or understood.
Delays in seeking help can lead to poorer outcomes. The Get Checked Out campaign aims to address this by:
- Encouraging people to trust their instincts
- Supporting early conversations with professionals
- Making messages clear and easy to understand
- Helping reduce fear or uncertainty about seeking help
What the campaign includes
The campaign has been designed with accessibility and inclusion at its core, including:
- Simple, clear guidance on when and how to seek help
- Easy-to-understand messaging tailored to people with a learning disability
- Digital and community-based resources to increase awareness
- Partnership working across health, local authority and third sector organisations
Working together
This campaign is supported by partners across Cardiff and the Vale, reflecting a shared commitment to improving health outcomes for people with a learning disability and reducing inequalities.
By working together, we can ensure that more people:
- Feel confident to come forward
- Know where to go for help
- Receive the right support at the right time
