
Chief Executive – Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
Suzanne Rankin is the Chief Executive of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, bringing a wealth of experience in clinical leadership and healthcare transformation. She began her career in the Royal Navy’s Queen Alexandra’s Royal Naval Nursing Service, qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1990. Her service included various operational deployments and strategic roles, culminating in her appointment to the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Medical Services Directorate, where she advised on nursing strategy and leadership.
Transitioning to the NHS in 2008, Suzanne held the position of Deputy Chief Nurse at NHS South Central Strategic Health Authority before joining Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Chief Nurse in 2010. She became the Trust’s Chief Executive in 2014, leading initiatives that emphasized integrated care and community partnerships.
Since assuming her current role in early 2022, Suzanne has focused on fostering collaboration across health and social care sectors, driving innovation, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes and community well-being.
